For Lee Ann Race, it was a simple matter of family.
With that in mind, Race has resigned as the athletic director at West Holmes High School.
She will stay on through May 31 while the process of finding a new AD is conducted. The West Holmes Board of Education is expected to act on her resignation on Feb. 20th and commence the process of posting the athletic director’s position.
“I feel that at this time, this is what is best for me and my family, ” Race said.
“One thing that has become very clear to me this year, is that life is too short and I want to be the wife and mother that my family deserves. The time commitment that is required to fully do this job, does not really allow for that and I feel that it is time for me to have a “normal” life again, ” she added.
The West Holmes graduate said she truly enjoyed working with colleagues, press and others outside the district and thanked them for their help, cooperation and support of the district and its students.
Race is completing her fifth year as the athletic director. The plan moving forward will be to open up the AD position and get someone in as soon as possible in order to help with a smooth transition.
Race said since her daughter will just be a freshman next year, she still plans to remain active with the district and boosters as a parent.
