After mother nature decided to shorten the annual weekend on the Hill, Hilltop owner, Buck Smitley, decided to finish the season on a better note by adding a make-up race including the 3rd Annual Holmes Tire Late model invitational paying $2,500 to win, sponsored by the Hershberger family, trick or treat for the kids and an appearance by the Midwest Midget Series sprints.
Starting off the night’s events were the Bugs-R-Gone truck division with the largest count of the season with twelve. Heat race winners were “The Dominator” Braxton Wilson and Cole Lillibridge, setting the front row for feature event.
Setting the pace to the green was Wilson who would jump out to an early lead over second of Lillibridge. However, red flag conditions would stop the race as Lillibridge truck caught fire and had to be sent off pit side. Back under green, it was again Wilson to the front. As the top three, Wilson, Tim Lillibridge, and John Large singled out, “Wild Hare” Travis Hare would make his move from the back of the pack back up to fourth. Nevertheless, picking up the win after leading lap for lap was “The Dominator” Braxton Wilson followed by Tim Lillibridge, John Large, Travis Hare and Chris Asbury.
Rolling out onto the track next were the Holmes Tire late models with a field of thirty-three. Setting fast time among the field was “Flyin” Ryan Markham with a 14.323. Each of three heat race wins went to Kyle Moore, Vic Hottinger, and “The Flying Ace” Corey Conley. The dash win was claimed by Markham placing him on the pole for the night’s 30-lap 3rd Annual Holmes Tire late model invitational. Last chance race wins went to Wayne Maffet and Rick Mardis.
Bringing the field down the back stretch to the start of their 30-lap feature was Markham. As the field came off of two, it was Shane McLoughlin who would take the lead with Markham second. With the top two pulling away, caution would come out forcing the field to bunch back up for the restart. Back green, McLoughlin would retain the lead as JR Gentry would challenge Markham on the bottom for the second place position. Working through lap traffic, the battle continued as Markham would make contact with the wall allowing not only Gentry but “The Flying Ace” Corey Conley to get by as well. However, short lived as Conley would obtain second from Gentry and set his sights on McLoughlin a caution would once again fly with fourteen laps in the books.
With racing action underway, Conley would pull a slider coming off of two to ultimately claim the lead as lap fifteen went in the books. Nevertheless, McLoughlin not backing down, would charge hard into one looking to get under Conley, unfortunately he would make contact with the tire and spin out bringing the caution back out. Single filed, back green, Conley would again take the lead and pull away from the remainder of the field as he would go on to claim the Hershberger sponsored $2,500 to win Holmes Tire late model invitational. Rounding out the top five were Ryan Markham, DJ Cline, Brad Malcuit and Ty Myers.
The Midwest Midget series sprint cars made their first appearance of the year with a car count of five. The single heat race win went to Aaron Leffel. With the green out, it was Leffel to the front and that is where he would remain leading every lap and going on to pick up the feature win. Rounding out the top five was John Watson, Johnny Star, Clayton Mullett and Chad Hyatt.
Setting fast time among nineteen John’s Custom Embroidery & Screen Printing modifieds was “The Stalker” Johnathan Sluka with a time of 15.464. Heat race winners were Larry Moran and Nathon Loney with the dash win going to Chris Basich.
Coming to the green, it was pole sitter, Chris Basich who would take the early lead. A close second, was “The Logger” Kevin Morehouse, who would work the high side and take the lead off of two. However, caution would come out forcing Morehouse to fall back to second for the restart. Once back under green, Basich would again take the top spot with Morehouse edging, looking for a way to the front. Meanwhile, “The Stalker” Jon Sluka, would make his presence known as he would go side by side with Morehouse for second. However, Morehouse, set on the top spot, would continuing working the high side and ultimately take the lead from Basich off of turn four with seventeen laps in the books. Remaining out front, going on to add another win on the season was “The Logger” Kevin Morehouse. He was followed by Chris Basich, Nathon Loney, Jonathan Sluka and Jesse Wardell.
The Holmes Pest Control street stocks had a field of eighteen with Kyle Moore setting fast time with a 16.227. Picking up a heat race win each was Bob Daugherty and Tim Penley with David Potts winning the dash.
Coming off of four to the green it was David Potts who would take an early lead with Bob Daugherty and Kyle Moore battling on his bumper for a close second. However, caution would come out, resulting in Moore changing a tire and having to restart tail. With racing action back underway, Potts would again take the top spot with Daugherty right on his bumper. Working Potts, Daugherty would then take the lead off of four with eight laps in. As the laps dwindled, Daugherty would work his way through lap traffic, advancing his lead over the field and going on to pick up the win. A close second went to John Wilson, third to David Potts; back up to fourth after restarting tail was Kyle Moore and fifth was Dustin Daugherty.
The Rigz Towing modlites were next to roll onto the track with a field of twenty-one. Heat race winners were Dillon Rittenhouse, Joey Dingus and Ray Leslie. With the field set the green was out and it was Rittenhouse and Dingus front row heading into turn one. Yet, starting fourth, no stranger to the top spot was Tracy Fritter who would obtain the top spot and that is where he would remain. Fending off competitors, advancing almost a full second lead over the rest of the field to pick up yet another win on the season was Tracy Fritter. Fritter was followed by Ray Leslie, Joey Dingus, Dillon Rittenhouse and cracking the top five after starting ninth was Clint Snyder.
With a field of nineteen, the Short Track Fire and Rescue mini stocks featured two heat races with wins going to Matt Miller and Terry Adkins. Bringing the field to the start, the green was out on their 12-lap feature event. Jumping out front was pole sitter, Matt Miller, who would fend off competitors to go on to pick up another feature win on the season. Second went to Jerry Adkins, third Brad Hensel, fourth Travis Tice and fifth was Dale Beckett.
