John Lorson
After nearly two decades in engineering and local government, John Lorson made the switch to academia by joining The University of Akron Wayne College as an Admissions Counselor. In spring of 2009, John was named Coordinator of the Holmes County Higher Education Center, a satellite campus of Wayne College located in downtown Millersburg. In addition to his duties at the college, John is also a writer, humorist and local entertainer. An avid bicyclist and racer for over 26 years, John is the President of the Orrville Cycling Club, and can frequently be seen rolling down the roads of Wayne and Holmes Counties with his friends and family.
Bill Martino
Bill was born and raised in Canton but his family would drive to Holmes County at least once each month. He is amazed at how much of the county those weekend jaunts missed. Prior to being hired at the Holmes County District Public Library he was the Executive Director of the NE Ohio Regional Library System. From 2002-2007 he was the Director of the Minerva Public Library. He has also worked at libraries in Upper Arlington, Steubenville and Canton. Bill is also an adjunct faculty member at both Kent Stark and Kent Tuscarawas where he teaches history. Bill has degrees from Hiram College, The University of Akron and Kent State University. When not at the library or teaching, Bill likes to spend time with his two children Alex and Emma and his fiancée Jana and her daughter Chloe
Gary W. Mast
When he was named in February, 2007 as deputy undersecretary for natural resources and the environment in the U.S. Department of Agriculture, former USDA Secretary Mike Johanns called Mast a "seasoned veteran of agriculture and conservation issues. Gary is well regarded within USDA and by our stakeholders. His background and passion for conservation will be especially valuable." Mast served in that capacity until January, 2009. Prior to that, Mast was a conservation district official for a quarter-century and held office in the National Association of Conservation Districts He is a sixth generation Ohio family farmer in partnership with his brother, Jon.
Shasta Mast
Shasta has served as the director of the Holmes County Chamber of Commerce & Tourism Bureau since Jan. 1, 2004. Prior to returning to Holmes County in fall 1999, Shasta worked for the State of Ohio where she served in the communications department of the Bureau of Workers’ Compensation. What began as a college internship in 1994, evolved into a five-and-a-half year career in corporate communications. Shasta worked as a publications editor, public information officer, speech writer, special project coordinator, script writer and more. Shasta holds a bachelor’s degree in English and journalism from Otterbein College.
Dr. DJ McFadden
Educated at Goshen College, Indiana, the University of North Carolina and Duke University, Dr. McFadden found his calling in public health service. He left private practice working at Holmes Family Medicine when he was employed by the Holmes County Board of Health on June 1, 2005. Dr. McFadden serves as the chief executive officer for the Health District overseeing the programs and the staff of the health district on behalf of the board of health. He is also the medical director for the health district and for Hospice. His resume includes numerous awards and professional affiliations.
