Burch Drafted By Tigers

Former Hiland baseball standout Luke Burch heard his name called in the ninth round of the Major League Baseball draft on Tuesday.

The Detroit Tigers drafted the Kent State centerfielder.

Burch hit .350 this year for the Golden Flashes and and drove in 25 runs.

He was an incredibly consistant hitter at Kent State, posting a .357 average as a junior and a .360 average as a sophomore.

He was just as prolific in the classroom as he was named to the 2017 All-MAC Academic baseball team.

Student-athletes earn Academic All-MAC honors by having at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and by participating in at least 50 percent of the contests during the current season.

Burch was also one of 24 winners of a MAC Medal of Excellence Award this year.

Luke is the son of Mike and Deb Burch
